George Holz b. 1956, is an American photographer from Oak Ridge,Tennessee. He apprenticed for Helmut Newton while studying at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Newton’s mentorship deeply influenced Holz’s photographic path. Holz began his career in Milan and Paris, shooting for major European fashion magazines such as Vogue Italia, Lei, L’Officiel, and French Elle. Moving to New York, he photographed fashion, beauty, and legendary advertising campaigns for clients such as Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, and Nike. The Grammy-Award winning photographer has shot some of the most iconic movie posters and album covers of all time, including Face Off with Travolta and Cage, and Madonna’s Borderline. Holz Hollywood: 30 Years of Portraits, is a comprehensive monograph and a virtual who’s who of music, film, television, sports, politics and sports. Angelina Jolie, Jack Nicholson, Brad Pitt, and Mariah Carey are just a few of the legendary celebrities featured in the book. Holz’s timeless fine art nudes, photographed at locations around the world, have been exhibited internationally at prestigious galleries and museums.

An intense one day workshop and opportunity to learn from this renowned photographer and teacher who has been photographing the portrait for over 50 Years. Drawing upon his vast experience in the fashion, portrait, and entertainment worlds, Holz has a wealth of information to share with his students on his unique ability of balancing both art and commerce.
Holz will teach and share his signature lighting techniques, as well as entertaining stories from photographing celebrities. From the more controlled environment of the studio to the unpredictability of shooting on location, students will see first hand Holz’s thought and decision-making process,

This is a master class with photographer George Holz for advanced amateur and professional photographers.
Under Holz’s guidance, Holz will share his techniques on lighting and sculpting the human form, both with artificial and natural light. Students will also learn about the importance of casting and directing models, developing a rapport and trust, and making the subject a partner in the creative process. Taking after his mentor Helmut Newton, Holz managed to also work on his personal work, fine art nudes, while on assignment in studio, exotic locations around the world, and his own back yard.
It will also address the constantly evolving issues of creative censorship, social mores, and the history of photographing the human figure from its inception to today and beyond.
